Skullcandy is not the first choice brand you consider when you portrait the best audio products, but it is gradually changing that opinion.
The company is highly known for its affordable buds but now we are looking at the Skullcandy Crusher Evo which has the latest 5.0 Bluetooth, an adjustable bass slider, and a price under 200. For more details let’s jump into Skullcandy Crusher Evo review:
Skullcandy Crusher Evo Review – Design and Build quality
The Skullcandy Crusher Evo is a tough pair of buds, but at a similar time, they’re not very heavy, so you can wear them for long sessions without any issues. They come in 2 colors. We were given the true black shade of headsets.
There are soft sponge padding on-ear cups, and the top headset has soft silicone padding, which is slightly lighter and complements the headphones. They have quite some controls on both left and right sides of the headphone.
The left part features the well-known slider haptic bass that can be easily moved to set the bass of the Crusher EVO.
It also boosts audio bass and vibrations. Above the bass slider is a power key that permits you to turn it on/off and activates them for paring mode.
Below the bass, the slider is that the USB type C charging port as well as the audio cable port if listeners want to use them as a wired device. The buttons are tactile and clicky, and I had no problem using them.
Ease of Use
Like most Bluetooth headphones currently available, the Skullcandy Crusher Evo is simple to use. Upon them on the 1st time, headphones enter pairing mode. Find them in the list of Bluetooth devices on your mobile, choose it, and you’d be good to go.
To connect with a different device, turn them off, press and hold the power key to turn them back on, and hold until you hear the paring prompt and see light flashing blue.
The 3 buttons on the right cup are your main controls. Pushing the center one toggles music playback and answers or cut a phone call. Holding it for about 3 seconds launches your digital assistant.
The top button increases your volume level when pressed as well as skip the song when held down for a couple of seconds. Likewise, the button lowers the volume level or skips the previous song.
Skullcandy Crusher Evo – Sound Quality
Given a bass switch, probably, the most amazing feature about Skullcandy Crusher Evo is its frequency response. As you’d expect from a pair of headsets in this price range, they sound well. With the bass switch turned off, the headphone provides already great bass response.
Kick drums simply punch through a mix, and bass synths provide an overall soft tone. When turning it on, things get slightly silly. Up, the headsets well and truly begin pounding and I think most of the bass fans will even fit it huge.
If you truly want a good bass boost, you will probably be content with something in the mid, and perhaps on the lower end, considering the boost also adds muddiness to the sound.
The mids of the Skullcandy Crusher Evo are pretty well-tuned too. They skew little towards the lower end, offering a relatively warm and rich sound. The high MIDs remain very pleasant enough to make for a great vocal response though.
We were highly surprised to find that despite the focus on bass response, the headphones still provide decent high-end response, that feature makes them the best bass headphones under 200. Cymbals shine via a mix finely, and vocals provide a fine amount of sibilance.
While a few wills like the bass boost turned on offer here, even those that never touch it will find that the Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones sound great.
Skullcandy Crusher Evo Review – Battery Life
The company promises a battery performance of forty hours with the Skullcandy Crusher Evo with 1hr of the fully charged headset, and yes, it easily delivers on the promise.
I used the headphones for around 2hrs each for ten days, and I’d not bear in mind plugging them on. They also provide quick charging support, and 10 minutes with 4hrs of battery life.
The battery performance in this model is impressive, and you can forget to charge it even after hours of listening with the bass slider switched on. Though, if you run out of battery life, they come with a USB type C wire and provide a completely charged device within 1hr of charging.
They can also be used as wired Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones with 0.3 mm audio cable they come with. Though, I never felt the need to utilize them as wired headphones.
