Chiang Mai is the second capital of Thailand and is the capital of the North. This city is very popular with backpackers and all kinds of travelers. And is becoming very very popular among Chinese tourists.
Chiang Mai is a city that has many many temples (more than 300). One of the most famous and must-visit temples is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. You can see through almost the city when you go to the top of Doi. Another famous temple in Chiang Mai is Wat Phra That Doi Kham, which is famous for its holiness. Besides, Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Pra Singh, and more and more temples in Chiang Mai.Some tourists come here to relax and stay only 2-3 weeks. But with the charm of the city, make have many who come here and return again and again. But many people who retiring decide to live in Chiang Main permanently.
Chaing Mai is smaller and quieter than Bangkok, hence, Chain Mai is the answer for people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital, Bangkok. The charms of this city are five gates around the moats which are Tha Phae Gate, Chiang Mai Gate, Suan Prung Gate, Suan Dok Gate, and Chang Phueak Gate. These things give feel like an ancient city.
You can do a lot of things in Chiang Mai. One of the cool experiences once come here is spend for one day at the Elephant nature park. You can ride on the back of elephants here. Doi Inthanon is the place that is one of the most visited. Especially in winter (from December to January), many Thai tourists will go to get there to experience the cold weather.
If you are passionate about festivals, I recommend that you should come to Chiang Mai in November for the Loy Krathong festival (in November) and the Songkran festival (13-15 April). These festivals are very fun especially, the Songkran festival you can enjoy with splatter in the street. Be careful, you should play with the water in the prepared place, such as around the moat of Chiang Mai, Tha Phae Gate, and Huay Kaew in front of Kad Suan Kaew Mall.
Personally, I favorite Chiang Mai Flower Festival which takes place in February.
Keep in mind that, if you want to go to Chiang Mai during the festival time, It is necessary! you should book your hotel before, otherwise, you will very difficult to find a room.
Accommodation in Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is a big city in Thailand, which has plenty of hotels and especially guesthouses. Nevertheless, in high season, rooms are always not available in guest houses. So, I recommend that you should be booking in advance during festivals like Songkran (13-15 April), Flower Festival (First of the week-end in February), and Loy Krathong (November).
Places Must visit in Chaing Mai
Don’t miss! Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is one of the most famous temples in Thailand. This temple is very very popular with tourists foreigners and tourists Thais. Atop of a Doi, on a day which clear, you will see overall the city of Chiang Mai, very magnificent.
Doi Inthanon, is the most popular tourist destination for Thais and foreigners. At the top of Doi, have two very beautiful pagodas which were built to show loyalty to King Rama IX and Queen of Thailand.
Wat Doi Kham or its full name is Wat Phra That Doi Kham, the oldest temple in Chaing Mai. This temple is one of the most famous temples in Chiang Mai city. At the peak of the mountain, there is a courtyard that has a big Buddha statue, 17 meters.
Wat Phra Sri Suphan (Silver Temple)
Wat Phra Sri SuPhan or the informal name, Silver Temple. Wat Si Suphan was built around the year 1500 and the interior is a very beautiful carving.
